Principal’s Message

Principal and 2 studentsWelcome to Holy Cross Catholic Primary School Woollahra. I hope that by exploring our website, you’ll gain an insight into our dynamic, caring and faith‑filled school community.

Holy Cross is a Kindergarten to Year 6 co-educational primary school located in Bondi Junction..

Our school motto, “Nothing Without God,” permeates the life of our school. The charism of the Sisters of Mercy is central to our mission. Following in the footsteps of Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy, we work in partnership with parents to provide a quality Catholic education grounded in the Mercy values of compassion, love, justice, respect and care for all. We strive to live the Gospel values in a supportive, nurturing environment that celebrates the gifts and talents of every member of our community.

We maintain a strong academic focus, ensuring that every student is challenged, supported and inspired to achieve their personal best. Our curriculum is designed for 21st‑century learners, offering high‑quality teaching and learning programs that foster curiosity, critical thinking and deep engagement. With a strong emphasis on STEM education, students are encouraged to explore, question and innovate as they develop the skills needed to become creative, capable thinkers for the future. We also believe that a rich and fulfilling education extends beyond the classroom. Holy Cross offers a broad range of extracurricular activities that allow students to discover new interests, develop their talents and build confidence.

The staff at Holy Cross are committed and dedicated to providing a stimulating, learning environment to cater for the individual needs of the students. We work as a professional learning team in a collaborative and supportive environment to ensure that we instil a love of learning that enables students to reach their full potential.

At Holy Cross, we are deeply committed to the holistic development of each child. We prioritise wellbeing and healthy friendships through the implementation of the Friendology Program, which empowers students with the skills to build healthy friendships, develop emotional resilience and navigate social situations with confidence and kindness. We intentionally cultivate a positive school culture where every child feels known, valued and supported, and where respectful relationships form the foundation of a thriving learning environment. We continually encourage students to treat each other with kindness, spreading kindness like confetti throughout the school community.

We believe that when children are happy, confident and engaged learners within a nurturing and faith‑filled community, they are well‑placed to enjoy a bright and hope‑filled future in the world in which they live.

We love our school!

Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School WoollahraHistory
Holy Cross Catholic Primary School Woollahra was founded in 1906 by the Sisters of Mercy (Parramatta congregation) to conduct a school in the new parish. They began teaching thirty children in the original church in 1907.

In 1908, the first Sister of Mercy principal was appointed. Over the years, Holy Cross has grown with the support of parish priests and the Sisters of Mercy.

The last Sister of Mercy principal at Holy Cross was Sister Veronica Powell who was the principal for 23 years. Sister Veronica speaks to the children about the history and values of the Sisters of Mercy on our Mercy Celebration Day each year.

The charism of the Sisters of Mercy is central to our mission. The Mercy values of justice, compassion, love, respect and care for all are central to the Holy Cross community.
